Local towns

Sainte-Maxime

A Provencal town that is busy all year-round. There is the old town with shops, markets, restaurants, bars and cafés opposite the harbour. On the pier there are marine shops and restaurants, plus a boat service to Les Issambres, St Tropez and Port Grimaud. There is a shoreline promenade with parks, pine trees, boulodrome Prince Bertil, the tourist office and the city beaches. The Casino has its own piece of white sand.

Port Grimaud

Port Grimaud is a town built in a similar style to Venice, with channels of water and traditional French fisherman’s houses, each with a personal boat mooring space at the end of the garden. Port Grimaud today is a charming village with attractive Provençal-style houses on a network of canals. The houses are designed to be individually different, painted with soft pastel colours of ochre, pink and turquoise and feature shutters with wrought iron balconies with roofs of terracotta Roman tiles. Known as the ‘Venice of Provence’ and arranged into four little islands, the colourful houses are linked by bridges over the waterways and surrounded by gardens.

Ramatuelle

Built against the hills, Ramatuelle faces out on a fabulous vista of the Bay of Pampelonne.

The viIlage is closed in by ramparts and you can see the rooftops of pink tiles and the ancient stone houses lined along the narrow streets. It hosts a wide range of jazz and classical music festivals and excellent theatre.

Pampelonne Bay
This long sandy beach (4.5km) is carved with creeks and inlets all with crystal clear water.

The inlets and the creeks are appreciated by those who are looking for more privacy.
